A Chinese woman woke up from a coma to reveal that her boyfriend, who was praised for staying by her side, had caused the injuries that put her in the coma in the first place.
Lin Yingying, 22, was put into a coma in September 2014 after her boyfriend allegedly beat her with a rolling pin.
Yingying told Chinese media that her boyfriend, Liu Fenghe, 25, attacked her after she burned 20 loaves of bread in the bakery they ran together, Metro UK reports.
She said she remembers falling on the floor during the beating and hearing Fenghe call an ambulance before she fell unconscious.
Yingying added that the attack was not an isolated incident and that Fenghe had physically hurt her several times before. She said he only spent time with her in the hospital and paid for her medical bills because he felt guilty.
Yingying regained consciousness in May 2015 after being released from the hospital in February 2015.
The 22-year-old didn’t speak out about her boyfriend’s abuse because she feared for her safety, but she eventually decided to tell her story after her father said to her: “You have died once, what more are you afraid of? It’s time to confront reality.”
Police are investigating Yingying's claims, which include two other alleged beatings, according to the New York Post.
