A woman in her 40s reportedly burst into flames while sitting on a park bench at a playground in Flensburg, Germany, on Nov. 2.
Witnesses said the bizarre incident happened at about 7 p.m., according to the German news site Flensburger Tagesblatt, The Local reports.
The woman was reportedly silent while on fire.
An unidentified female witness said there were two men nearby, who quickly left the area right before the woman went up in flames.
Fortunately, an unidentified bystander removed his jacket to put out the flames that had engulfed the woman.
Emergency workers soon arrived to take the woman to a local hospital, which transferred her to a burn unit in Lubeck, where she is reportedly in critical condition.
The Independent notes that some reports have said the woman died, but that was not confirmed.
"We have no evidence that points to a third party fault," local prosecutor Otto Gosch said, notes the International Business Times.
Investigators are looking into the incident, which could have been a case of the rare phenomenon known as spontaneous human combustion.
