Top Female Soccer Player Competes Disguised As Man, Stuns Teammates By Revealing Gender (Video)

A female soccer player in Spain stunned her teammates when she revealed her true gender after playing a match disguised as a man (video below).

Brenda Perez, 21, is a top-ranked Spanish soccer player who has played with professional women's clubs including Valencia and Espanyol. Perez agreed to undergo a makeover to transform into a man she named "Dani Perez" and then participate in an amateur match in Madrid with 21 male players, reported the Daily Mail.

The transformation reportedly took seven hours to complete and involved outfitting Perez with a latex face mask, a wig and a fake beard.

After joining the men's team as a substitute, Perez reportedly stunned everyone on the field with her incredible skills. At one point during the game, the manager of the rival team urged his players to "keep watch on number 8" and said to an assistant, "He touches the ball well, doesn't he?"

During most of the game, only the referee and the manager of the team that Perez played on knew her true identity.

When the time came for Perez to take a free kick, she took off her wig and beard, revealing that she is a woman. Her male teammates and opponents watched in shocked disbelief.

Producers of the Spanish television program "El Hormiguero" reportedly dreamed up the stunt to help destroy popular assumptions about women's soccer in the country.

"Women’s [soccer] doesn’t have any presence alongside men’s [soccer] which receives all the media attention," Jordi Molto, a script writer for "El Hormiguero," said.

"Some people might say women haven’t got the same physical capacity or the same strength but this shows the technique can be the same and women and men with a ball at their feet can put on the same spectacle."

A video taken of the moment in which Perez revealed her true identity has gone viral online, reports the Daily Mail.

A copy of the video, posted on El Hormiguero's Facebook page, had gotten more than 6.5 million views, 2,000 likes and 50 comments within a day.

"Magnificent," one Facebook commenter wrote in response to the video.

"Great experiment, women's sports should have the biggest media impact," another user commented in Spanish.

The video also received thousands of views on YouTube.

The big moment was also broadcast on the show. Perez, who was in the show's live audience at the time, then went on stage to demonstrate her skills.

The talented soccer player said that although a few of the other players noticed her beard slipping during the game, no one suspected anything out of the ordinary.

"It was an unforgettable experience," she said.
