A man from the United Arab Emirates divorced his new bride after seeing her without makeup for the first time.

The unnamed newlyweds went for a dip in the sea at the Al Mamzar Beach in Dubai when the water washed away the 28-year-old bride’s makeup. The groom, 34, says he did not recognize her and filed for divorce just days after their wedding.

The couple had been engaged for six months before tying the knot. The woman is currently working with psychologist Dr. Abdul Aziz Asaf to help her get over the divorce.

“The groom immediately divorced his bride and refused any attempt to reunite them again,” Asaf told Gulf News.

Asaf says the man did not believe his wife looked as attractive after their wedding day.

The wife had had various cosmetic procedures done before the wedding and wore false eyelashes, which she planned on confessing to her husband.

In 2014, a Saudi man divorced his bride on their wedding night after seeing her face for the first time when the photographer asked them to pose together for pictures.

The couple had agreed to marry each other without ever meeting face to face, as is customary in parts of the Middle East, according to Daily Mail.

But once the groom lifted his bride’s veil for the camera, he was taken aback in horror.

“You are not the girl I want to marry,” he said after seeing her face for the first time. “You are not the one I had imaged. I am sorry, but I divorce you.”

In 2012, stories of a Chinese man divorcing his wife because she was once ugly was circulated online.

According to reports, she had had cosmetic surgery before meeting him and when they had children, they didn’t look like either parent.

The husband initially accused the wife of cheating on him because their child was “extremely ugly” and he could “never father an unattractive child.”

The story was later debunked as an urban legend despite being reported by major news outlets, reports KNXV.

The picture that started the rumor was actually an advertisement for a plastic surgeon in Taiwan.

The advertisement read, according to RocketNews24: “The only thing you have to worry about after plastic surgery is explaining [what] you’ll have to do to your children.”
