Two teenagers in Belgium rescued an elderly couple from drowning after they crashed their car into a lake.
The couple reportedly drove into a lake in Beervelde, Flanders, Belgium, by accident, with the incident being witnessed by 17-year-old Robbe Haems and 18-year-old Bjorn Cuvelier. The two teens quickly came to the couple’s aid when the car began to sink at an alarming pace.
In a video of the incident (below), the teens can be seen pulling a rubber boat up to where the car was and attempting to help the woman, named Cecile, out. After Cecile was rescued, they begin trying to save the man, identified only as Eric. He informs them, however, that he is disabled and therefore unable to get out of the car.
“I was afraid the man would drown in front of my eyes,” Haems said.
The boys then push the boat to the driver’s side of the car and attempt to save Eric.
‘It feels very special but I could have seen someone die. Then I really would have been broken,” Haems said.
