Miles Storey, a soccer player for Aberdeen, missed a goal from only inches away on April 4 during a match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen, Scotland (video below).
The 23-year-old replaced Adam Rooney at the 79-minute mark, notes RT.com. Aberdeen was leading at the time 1 to 0.
Aberdeen's Jonny Hayes kicked the ball toward Storey, who was only inches from an open goal, but Storey's feet became tangled and he could not tap the ball in.
When Storey finally got stabilized it was too late, the ball bounced off his leg and away from the goal.
Storey's failed goal did not come back to haunt him as Aberdeen won 1 to 0. This was the team's tenth straight victory at home.
Aberdeen is presently second behind Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.
Storey's miss was noticed on Twitter, notes The Scottish Sun:
Saw it at time, watched it ten times, still don't know how Miles Storey missed this...
Miles Storey with one of the worst misses I have ever seen...
That may be the end for Miles Storey at Aberdeen.
Got to feel for Miles Storey -- making the headlines & going viral after THAT miss -- desperate to score & just trying too hard.
Derek McInnes, the manager of Aberdeen, said after the game: "I’ll go and watch Rangers against Kilmarnock and we’ll be ready for them, no matter what team he picks. We’ve to face Rangers twice, Celtic, St Johnstone twice, Hearts and so you’re into some tough games."
Storey has also played for Inverness, Swindon Town, Shrewsbury, Portsmouth and Newport, reports the Daily Mail.
Swindon Town's chairman, Lee Power, announced that Storey was moving to Aberdeen in May 2016, noted the Swindon Advertiser:
Miles Storey, we have gone through him since I have been at the football club many, many times.
Miles is a nice kid, he’s a decent player, it’s just the way we play doesn’t necessarily suit how he plays, really.
He’s gone to Scotland and done great up there.
We have reengaged him with terms, obviously to try and demand a fee.
He’s got a value at the moment where he has done so well there but I think Miles would probably be the first to say his future is away from the County Ground.
Storey has scored once in 18 games with Aberdeen, reports the Daily Mail.
After this miss, BBC Sport Scotland tweeted: "Hard luck Storey! Watch Miles Storey's goal-line miss in last night's victory over."
