A Russian man who kept exotic snakes was reportedly killed by his King Cobra when it bit him during feeding.
The 21-year-old man, known in media reports only as Vladimir, died within minutes of being bitten by the cobra, Yahoo News notes. The King Cobra is known as one of the most poisonous snakes in the entire world.
Vladimir’s girlfriend Anna, who was in the apartment at the time of the snake’s attack, told police that the King Cobra had bitten its owner. Vladimir then died in Anna’s arms.
Anna immediately called an ambulance, but once the medical professionals arrived, they reportedly Anna there was nothing they could do.
“Vladimir was not afraid of his poisonous serpents and liked playing with them,” Anna said, according to Yahoo News. “His collection of snakes included a green mamba, a red spitting cobra and the king cobra, which killed him. He had only had the snake for a short time.”
It’s unclear what will become of Vladimir’s other snakes, since Anna has declined to care for them. However, the King Cobra shouldn’t be difficult to get rid of, since they’re highly prized among snake collectors.
Vladimir had reportedly only been collecting snakes for two years.
