Police in Mumbai, India, recently force-fed a thief bananas after he swallowed a stolen gold chain.
“He was fed more than 40 bananas throughout the day,” Police Inspector Shankar Dhanavade said, according to AFP. “Eventually the chain was found. We made him wash and disinfect it.”
The 25-year-old thief initially denied stealing the gold chain, but an X-ray showed the jewelry was inside him. Police tried to get the chain out with an enema, but it failed to move the stolen loot.
Doctors suggested surgery, but the police thought that would be too expensive and opted for bananas instead.
The Hindustan Times reported that Indian police forced a thief to eat two dozen bananas and drink laxative-laced milk to a recover a gold chain in July 2015, according to AFP.
