Bombing Survivor, Ex-Boxer Die In Car Crash In Dubai

On March 6, a Ferarri slammed into a lamp post in Dubai, killing all four of its passengers: Priscilla Perez Torres, 23, Torres' classmate -- and Boston Marathon Bombing survivor -- Victoria McGrath, also 23, former Canadian boxer Cody Nixon, and his cousin, who has not been identified.

The day before the crash, Nixon posted a photo of himself in the yellow Ferrari on Instagram, along with the caption: “Just landed into Dubai picked up the Ferrari! Don't worry I won't speed,” along with a winking smiley face.

Nixon represented the province of Ontario at Canada’s Boxing Championships four years ago, boxing coach Don Nelson told CBC News.

"At the club, Cody was a genuine nice guy known for keeping us laughing, entertained and occasionally on our toes," Nelson said. "Although Cody had been out of the sport for about four years, he was part of the boxing family.

"We are truly saddened to hear this news. Our condolences go out this his family and friends for a young life lost much too soon.”

Nixon was reportedly planning to serve as the best man at his best friend’s wedding.

"He was a really funny, loving, caring guy," bride-to-be Meesheen Gustanoff said. "He was always happy."

It’s unclear how Nixon and his cousin met Torres and McGrath, who were traveling together in Dubai.

“She was devoted to helping others through leadership in student organizations and community service work,”  Northeastern University President Joseph Aoun said of McGrath in a statement. He added that Torres “was passionate about travel and working on issues related to nutrition and women's health.

"Each were kind, talented young women, with exceptional futures before them.”

Col. Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, told The National that the crash occurred after the driver lost control of the car, and the car hit a lamp post. The car split in half, and the passengers were killed when they were thrown out of the vehicle.
