A father was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping his own son when a neighbor, who did not recognize him due to his new beard, called the police.
Torkel Kristoffers, 39, from Stockholm, Sweden, grew his beard while taking a break from work to look after his 2-year-old son, Axel.
Axel asked his father to carry him to a friend’s house in a grocery bag and Kristoffers obliged. A neighbor saw him with the boy and — not recognizing him with the beard — thought the child was being abducted, reports Mirror.
The neighbor called the police and they went to Kristoffers’ home and arrested him.
Kristoffers eventually explained the situation to police and everything was soon resolved.
"When two police cars run into my coffee time, we know that it’s time to shave the beard,” Kristoffers wrote following the incident in a Facebook post that included a picture of him with his beard.
"It is currently not a crime to carry a child around in a bag,” a policewoman said, The Independent reports, after confirming the error of suspecting Kristoffers of kidnapping.
