Lucky Cat Survives 30 Shotgun Wounds

Puss-Puss, a 3-year-old cat, survived 30 pellet wounds after being shot outside her home in Essex, England, in early April.

After being missing from her home for about a week, Puss-Puss returned dragging her feet and soaked in blood. A veterinarian exam and X-rays found 30 separate shotgun wounds, notes The Independent.

"We were shocked to find that Puss-Puss was peppered with such an extraordinary number of pellet wounds all over her body and head," Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals inspector Adam Jones said, according to the New York Daily News.

"One was in her paw, making it hard for her to walk, and another in the middle of her eye - causing a detached retina," Jones added. "The vet said two had just missed her spinal cord and it is a miracle she survived."

Doug Taw, Puss Puss' owner, recalled:

We heard some gunshots, but didn't imagine at first it could have anything to do with Puss-Puss.Then we found her crouched under a car, frightened and injured. She ran off and we couldn't find her for a week.

I was beside myself with worry. Then she eventually dragged herself back in a terrible state and we rushed her straight to the vet. It is heartbreaking seeing her in such a distressed state, and I am so upset that she will now lose her eye.

Across the pond in the U.S., a much bigger cat took the life of a veteran zookeeper at the Palm Beach Zoo in Florida on April 15.

Stacey Konwiser was killed after being attacked by one of the zoo's rare Malayan tigers, notes CNN.

The zoo’s spokeswoman Naki Carter said at a press conference that Konwiser was preparing to do a "Tiger Talk," a daily question and answer session with visitors, when tragedy struck in the behind-the-scenes enclosure.

Carter did not say what specific injuries Konwiser suffered.

After Konwiser's encounter with the tiger, zoo workers tranquilized the animal for rescue workers to get to the wounded trainer. Konwiser was taken by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center, where she later died from injuries sustained from the incident.
