Locals Protest After Nun Is Brutally Gang Raped In Indian Convent Attack

A gang of six men reportedly raped a 75-year-old nun in India after they ransacked a convent school and stole money.

According to reports, the group of men entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in West Bengal and tore it apart before entering the actual convent and raping the nun. Thomas d’Souza, the Archbishop of Calcutta, reportedly told BBC News that surveillances cameras inside the school captured the faces of the rapists.

“There are only three Sisters in the community,” d’Souza explained. “One sister was molested badly. The other two, and a guard, were tied to chairs.”

While the BBC is reporting that six men were involved, the Daily Mail reports that as many as 12 took part in the attack.

“A preliminary investigation has revealed that a nun at the school was gagged and gang-raped,” Police Inspector General Anuj Sharma said, according to the Daily Mail. “Two people have so far been arrested.”

The victim is reportedly in serious condition at a local hospital while authorities attempt to locate the other suspects. Meanwhile, local Christian women are angrily taking to the streets to protest and are accusing the government of not protecting them.
