'It's Sick': Mother Steals Daughter's Boyfriend And Son

A British woman was left devastated after her boyfriend was stolen from her by her own mother. Six years later, her world was torn apart once more when the child she was pregnant with at the time was awarded to her now-ex and her mother, following a custody battle.

Heather Ford, a then-single mother, was introduced to her ex-boyfriend, Tom Thorton, by her father Barry.

“He was good looking, charming and funny and I felt myself falling for him even though he was five years older than me,” she said. Ford’s mother, Helen, originally disapproved of Tom because of prior issues with drugs and alcohol. Despite her mother’s objections, Ford soon fell for Tom and found herself pregnant with his child.

“When I got pregnant with his baby it was a happy accident. I yearned for the perfect family and to have a dad for both my children,” she said. As the pregnancy continued, Ford began noticing that both Tom and her mother were becoming distant and acting strangely.

“I told myself he was just coming to terms with the idea of giving up his party lifestyle to be a dad and he wanted to make the most of it before the baby arrived,” she said. “Then, as the pregnancy progressed, Mum started to act strangely, too. Tom and I were arguing more and more about the tiniest of things. It was as though he wanted to pick fights but Mum would always side with him.”

Soon, Ford noticed her mother, who was married to Barry for 21 years at the time, had suddenly started wearing makeup, losing weight and going out more.

“Alarm bells started ringing. I thought she might be having an affair but it never entered my head she was trying to impress Tom, because she is old enough to be his mum,” Ford said. The couple broke up just a few weeks later.

“The stress of the relationship was too much because he was never there,” she said. “He wouldn’t tell me what was wrong so we agreed to go our separate ways. I was heartbroken. I was going to be a single mum again.” Just as she’d suspected, Ford discovered a few weeks later, following her parents’ split, that Tom and her mother had been having a relationship.

“I was upset with Mum over her split with Dad, but she was still my mum. I went to her flat for advice on the birth and to talk about my split with Tom. I thought we could help each other,” she said. “When I arrived I noticed she had a love bite (hickey) on her neck. Then, just as she tried to explain it away, I heard a key in the door and in walked Tom. His jaw hit the floor when he saw me but when I asked why he had a key to my mum’s (apartment) a smirk spread across his face. ‘I’m living here now,’ he said.”

“I thought I was going to faint or vomit as he told me how they had fallen in love and were starting over, together,” Ford said. “I felt stress running through my body and thought I’d go into labor there and then.”

Barry was reportedly so distraught over the affair that he attempted to hang himself.

In the six years since, Ford was able to rebuild her life without her mother and ex in her life. All was going well, until she was hit with another unbearable blow. Tom, who up until that point had shared custody of the couple’s son with Ford, was seeking joint custody with Helen.

“I crumbled. I was in total shock. I couldn’t believe they were doing it to me again,” Ford said. “It was as though this is the next step in their sick plan to ruin my life — or at least steal it from me.”

Ultimately, a judge ruled in favor of Tom and Helen taking custody of the child on the grounds that because they had no other children to care for, they would be able to provide a stable home for him. Ford was left devastated.

“I feel so let down and I know my son belongs with me because I wouldn’t trust anyone with that devious pair,” she said. “But I’m no lawyer. I didn’t have one and they got theirs paid for. I didn’t stand a chance. All I’ve ever tried to do it provide a loving family for my children. I have been betrayed at every turn but I will never give up that dream of getting him back."
