A 14-year-old Syrian boy has described the horrific incident in which an ISIS militant cut off his hand and foot because he refused to join the terrorist organization.
The teen, known only as Omar, was captured by the Islamic State while serving with more moderate opposition forces to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
He says that ISIS militants tied him up and tortured him for a month and a half to get him to join their growing number of child fighters. He continuously refused and was dealt a harsh and horrific punishment.
Omar told Channel 4, from his new home in a town on the Turkish border, that militants gathered in the middle of the street, tied his right hand and left leg down, and cut them off.
"They put my hand on a wooden block and cut it off with a butcher's knife," he told reporter Evan Williams. "Then they cut off my foot and put them both in front of me for me to see."
The courageous teen showed the reporter photos of his extremities being hacked off and images of the militant who performed the amputation, a large man nicknamed 'The Bulldozer.'
Omar said that 'The Bulldozer' and his fellow militants gathered other teenagers and children in the area before hacking off his hand and foot as a warning to not resist the Islamic State.
The terror group has been increasingly recruiting thousands of children as young as eight years old to join its ranks. The children are expected to start fighting once they turn 16, either as soldiers or suicide bombers.
Omar, heartbreakingly, said that he has "given up on life."
The punishment of Omar reveals the terrifying truth that even those who oppose the views of the Islamic State may not be able to resist without terrible consequences, essentially forcing many children to sign up to be future militants.
