Iran's Supreme Leader Tweets Graphic Of Obama With Gun To Head

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, tweeted a graphic Saturday morning depicting a silhouette of what looks like President Barack Obama holding a gun to his own head.

“US president has said he could knock out Iran’s military,” read the tweet’s caption. “We welcome no war, nor do we initiate any war, but…”

The text on the image attributed to Khamenei, completed the quote, adding, “if any war happens, the one who will emerge loser will be the aggressive and criminal U.S.”

The tweet, sent from Khamenei’s English language account, is one of many that reflects harsh sentiments towards the United States and Israel. Although Twitter has not officially verified the account as the supreme leader’s, it is widely believed to be Khamenei’s, reports USA Today.

“US pres. said he could knock out Iran’s army,” read a similar tweet Khamenei posted on July 17, just three days after the United States and other world powers reached a historic nuclear deal with Iran. “Of course we neither welcome, nor begin war, but in case of war, US will leave it disgraced.”

In the wake of the groundbreaking nuclear deal, which limits Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions that have been detrimental on Iran’s economy, several western countries have begun working to improve relations with the country. On July 25, The United Kingdom removed a travel warning, which recommended that British nationals avoid traveling to Iran whenever possible. They have now modified it to only caution against traveling to borders near Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, according to

“But we believe that in other areas of Iran the risk to British nationals has changed, in part due to decreasing hostility under President Rouhani’s Government,” said British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond.

Despite growing international attempts to soften tensions with Iran, the supreme leader appears to remain unwilling to compromise his stance on America.

“I have an advice for US Officials,” read another Twitter graphic that Khamenei posted on July 17, although the graphic attributes the quote on July 18. “Today, you are confessing to your previous mistakes in your anti-Iran policies after many years. Wake up and realize that you are making big mistakes in region. You are again making mistakes now.”
