An Indian woman has been arrested for attempted murder after a security video (below) showed her attacking her 70-year-old mother-in-law.
Sangeeta Jain is seen strangling her mother-in-law, Rajrani Jain, before yanking her by her hair and using a stone or brick to beat her.
On Jan. 5 Sangeeta was filmed battering the older woman after her husband, Sandeep, put a secret security camera in their home in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Sangeeta is in the process of divorcing her husband of seven years, who is accused of marital rape and dowry harassment, but it's not clear if he has been charged.
Authorities arrested Sangeeta on Jan. 12, the morning after the video was uploaded to social media and went viral in India.
Sangeeta claims the video is a bogus, set up by her husband and mother-in-law, saying, “They beat me so many times ... there is no video of that,” reports Daily Mail.
The video shows Sangeeta entering the room and assaulting the mother-in-law, by trying to strangle her from behind with a towel or scarf. She is then seen smacking the older woman multiple times before moving on to hitting her with both fists.
She continues to try to strangle her, wrapping a piece of cloth tighter around the woman's neck, nearly dragging the older woman off the bed. Sangeeta then leaves the kitchen and returns with a brick or stone, and uses it to hit the woman on the back and over the head.
“She came out of the kitchen and started slapping me. She also started to beat me with bricks ... I do not know why she does it,” said Rajrani.
“She was always like this. She used to attack us all -- my parents, me,” Sandeep told NDTV.
Despite his claims of recurring attacks, Sandeep but has not said why he waited seven years to report his wife's alleged abuse.
