Farmer Says He Killed Legendary Monster (Photos)

A Ukrainian farmer claims he killed a legendary blood-sucking monster.

The man, known only as Ivan, says he hunted down the chupacabra with a pitchfork after he found it bothering his livestock, the Daily Mail reports.

“The chupacabra was hunting and I killed it. It had been scaring local people for a long time. It was eating our chickens and rabbits,” the farmer said.

Even experts are mystified by the creature the farmer stumbled upon.

“This animal resembles an African fox, but its teeth, neck, ears and paws are too long. We can't say what it is,” said Valeriy Dopiryak, the head of the Regional State Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine.

What’s more, Ivan’s neighbor, Viktor, says there was more than one of them. The man adds he saw one that resembled a kangaroo running away.

A “chupacabra,” which means “goat sucker,” is part of folklore from the Americas, but has been allegedly seen in Russia, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine.

“Descriptions of chupacabra vary widely, but many accounts suggest that the creature stands about four to five feet tall. It has powerful legs that allow it to leap huge distances, long claws, terrifying, glowing red eyes, and distinctive spikes down its back,” Benjamin Radford writes for Live Science.

Many compare the legendary creatures to vampires.

“The chupacabra is probably the world's best-known vampire after Dracula, and its victims are often claimed to have been found completely drained of blood,” Radford adds.

However, reports indicate the chupacabra is more likely to be mythical than real.

In 1995, a Puerto Rican woman, Madelyne Tolentino, first saw the chupacabra.

Experts later revealed her description of the monster matched that of an alien she had coincidentally recently seen in the horror film “Species.”

What’s more, alleged previous sightings of the creature have often revealed themselves to simply be normal animals.

In 2007, Texas woman Phylis Canion found what she believed to be a chupacabra outside her ranch killing her livestock. Instead, it turned out to be a coyote.
