A drunk man in Russia passed out at a party only to wake up and find himself in a morgue.
The Daily Mail reports the inebriated man was mistakenly declared dead and placed in a mortuary freezer, surrounded by dead bodies.
“That night the local morgue was filled to its capacity, the bodies were not only on the shelves, but also on the floor of the freezer room, where our ‘dead’ hero was allocated,” Aleksey Stoyev, a police spokesman, said.
“At some point, the man woke up, failing to understand where he was. It was very dark and cold. In addition his brain was foggy due to the influence of alcohol. In the darkness, he felt someone's completely cold limbs and in fear rushed to the door. But it was locked."
Panicking, the man pounded on the freezer door, screaming for help. A security guard eventually heard his shouting and informed doctors.
Upon opening the door, the man ran out of the room before police could question him or officially release him.
Instead of running home, the man re-joined his friends at the party, only to find his mourning peers holding a wake in his honor.
After opening the door at the party, one of his friends passed out in shock upon seeing the man alive and well. Others drank vodka to the “resurrection” of their friend and continued partying.
This is not the first time a man has been mistakenly pronounced dead. In October, an Indian man woke up only moments before his postmortem was due to begin.
“The dead man was breathing. We saw his stomach moving up and down,” a hospital staffer told The Hindustan Times.
“The patient was on a stretcher and his face and ear were infested with maggots, usually seen in decomposed bodies,” explained the hospital’s dean, Sulman Merchant. He added that the man’s pulse and heartbeat were absent, which is “common in patients who are close to death.”
