Olivier Marcotte, a junior hockey player, was arrested on Feb. 21 during a game in Nicolet, Quebec, Canada, for allegedly spitting in the face of a referee whom he fought on the ice (video below).
Marcotte, a player for the Sherbrooke Hockey-Experts in the Junior AA league, was held down on the ice by the referee and another offcial until the police arrived, reports CBSSports.com.
SQ Sgt. Annie Thibodeau said that no criminal complaint was filed against Marcotte, and the 21-year-old player was released the same night, notes CBC News.
Sherbrooke lost the match to Nicolet 9-3, eliminating Sherbrooke from the playoffs and making any suspension against Marcotte unenforceable.
