A U.K. mother who fled her home country to travel to Syria and join ISIS was arrested at Heathrow Airport by anti-terror police as she attempted to return home.

Tareena Shakil, 25, reportedly fled to Raqqa in Northern Syria last October to join the extremist group before escaping to Turkey after refusing to take part in a forced marriage. When she left, the British woman told her parents that she was taking her son on a vacation to Spain.

Shakil was met on the tarmac by police and arrested immediately as she stepped off the plane. She was initially charged with suspicion of child neglect and child abduction, as she had taken her 16-month-old son with her to Syria. She was also suspected of terrorist offenses.

The young woman's parents and two younger siblings were also waiting for her at the airport when she arrived, hoping to be able to meet her after she was deported while in Turkey. “I’m delighted to have her back to British soil where she belongs. Tareena realizes she made a huge mistake and has vowed to help stop others repeating it once she is free,” Shakil’s father, 47-year-old Mohammed, said.

Shakil is currently in police custody.
