Al Gore Meets With Trump On Climate Change

President-elect Donald Trump has been calling climate change a hoax for years. Trump has called global warming a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, and has questioned climate change in the face of freezing temperatures.

“The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive,” Trump tweeted in November 2012.

Then, in December 2013, he tweeted: “Ice storm rolls from Texas to Tennessee - I'm in Los Angeles and it's freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive, hoax!”

But now, as president-elect, scientists and policymakers are trying hard to sway Trump’s opinion.

According to The New York Times, some 700 scientists have already signed a letter that will be sent to Trump on Dec. 6.

“We urge you to decide if you want your Presidency to be defined by denial and disaster, or acceptance and action,” the letter states. It also includes six steps for Trump to take to help protect America’s “economy, national security, and public health and safety.”

On Dec. 5, climate change activist and former Vice President Al Gore met with Trump to discuss the issue.

“I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect,” Gore told reporters after the meeting, notes The Washington Post. “It was a sincere search for areas of common ground …The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation. And – to be continued.”

“The world is on the cusp of either building on the progress and solving the climate crisis, or stepping back, washing our hands of America’s traditional role as the leader of the world and letting the big polluters call the shots,” Gore told a Florida crowd in October. “The choice is that clear. It’s that stark.”
