Swedish Teen Rescued After Leaving Home To Join ISIS

A 16-year-old girl has been rescued for a second time after running away with her boyfriend to join ISIS.

Marlin Stivani Nivarlain, from Boras, Sweden, left her country with her 19-year-old boyfriend in May 2015, while she was pregnant, to join ISIS.

The teen was rescued in October by Kurdish forces, but she escaped and went back to her boyfriend. She gave birth to a baby boy just days later.

On Feb. 23, Kurdish military officials announced that Nivarlain was rescued from ISIS a second time.

“She is 16 years old and was rescued on Feb. 17, 2016. We were called upon by Swedish authorities and her family to help rescue her,” officials said in a statement.

Kurdish officials say they are working with authorities in Sweden to help return the teen home “as quickly as possible.”

Nivarlain was reported missing by both her biological parents and her foster parents in June 2015 after telling her foster parents that her biological parents had given her permission to visit Stockholm for a few days.

The Swedish government has yet to comment on the teen’s case.
