A 13-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by a group of youths on a beach in Spain.
The group is reported to have violently gang-raped the young girl. The alleged attack took place in Alicante, Spain, during the San Juan festival.
Witnesses said the group of teens, around the same age as the victim, attacked the girl before trying to target a second victim. The second girl's father stepped in to stop the incident, the Daily Mail reports.
"The police arrived and the boys were detained," said a witness. "Several people said they were between 13 and 15 years old. They looked like they were Moroccans."
"Several shouts were heard and in a few minutes the police were already in the area," another witness told The Olive Press. "I could see several children sitting together on a police motorcycle. Several people said that in addition to attacking the girls, they also stole mobile phones."
When The Sun contacted the National Police in Spain to confirm the attack, the police said they had no record of the alleged incident.
The San Juan festival is an annual celebration of the beginning of summer in Spain, according to Andalucia.com. During the festival, people traditionally build fires on the beach and throw munecos, or dolls, into the fire. People also traditionally wash their face and feet three times after midnight, so they may be granted three wishes and good luck for the coming year.
In a similar story near Sydney, Australia, a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped by a group of males in 2012, reports News.com.au.
The teen was attending one her first parties with alcohol in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, and had reportedly drank at least a quart of wine.
Prosecutor Belinda Baker said the girl remembered awakening in a dark room to discover that she was soaked with water, and one of the boys was having sex with her. The boy was joined by others, who continued to attack her as she told them to stop.
Baker added that while the teenage boys continued to rape the victim, they "laughed, saying words like 'shut up, you love it s***.'"
At one point during the attack the girl saw police officers through a window but could not scream for help because one of the males covered her mouth with his hand.
After the girl regained control of her limbs, she pushed the alleged attackers away, and another person at the party helped her contact her mother so she could take the girl home.
Four males in the case have pleaded not guilty to charges that included aggravated sexual assault. The trial is ongoing.
