A group of 10-year-old children came to the aid of Rana Zia Ahmed after his jewelry store was robbed. Three men wearing masks and carrying a sledge hammer, battering ram and handgun tried to rob the store.
Ahmed, 47, was working in his store, called Romaze Jewelry Shop, in Manchester, England, when three masked men entered. The thieves started smashing the glass counters and boxes where all of Ahmed’s jewelry was displayed.
The robbers created a commotion that was loud enough the attract the attention of a group of 10-year-olds playing cricket. Inquisitr reported that they immediately ran to the store to help the owner.
Ahmed’s wife Ruksana described the incident, “He was in here and these lads came through the door with a big ram. They got inside and smashed the counter, but they didn’t get anything.”
The three men fled the scene without grabbing any jewelry but were chased by the pack of 10-year-olds and two customers that were in the store.
The pack of cricket players chased one of the men down and beat him up. When police arrived, the 25-year-old was bloodied and dazed.
A bystander who witnessed the chase said, “This armed robber tried to rob a jewelers in Glodwick, and got chased and caught by the local youth. A (job) well done lads for protecting your community. You don’t come in to Glodwick and rob and think you will get away with it.”
According to Daily Mail, police were thankful that the kids managed to catch the criminals, but cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
Sergeant Andrew Wheeler said, “Firstly I would like to commend the bravery of those people who assisted police in detaining one of the suspects. I would never encourage the public to take the law into their own hands and put their own safety at risk, but due to their actions we have been able to arrest a man on suspicion of armed robbery.”
