A 10-year-old boy in Ireland rescued his sister from being abducted by a sex offender after clinging to the man's moving vehicle and distracting him while the girl escaped.
The 12-year-old girl was playing outside with her two brothers near their home when the sex offender, who was reportedly out on bail for robbery, pulled over to ask the children for directions to a local priest's house. After pulling over, the man jumped from his vehicle and grabbed the young girl. Her brother then climbed through the driver's window of the man's jeep and punched him as he drove away.
Remarkably, the boy was able to distract the sex offender long enough for his sister jump out of the window and escape. The man then sped away.
The children's father was reportedly too distraught to comment on the incident, but told the Irish Independent that he was "extremely proud" of his son.
Authorities launched an investigation, which was concluded 24 hours later with the sex offender in handcuffs. According to reports, the 34-year-old man has a history of sexual offenses, even being jailed in 2004 for abducting and sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. Police believe he stole a vehicle on Tuesday evening, and the next morning he approached the children. He was arrested after police conducted a stakeout at a local church.
