Dan Joseph, of the conservative Media Research Center, recently asked several new graduates some basic history questions at Centreville High School in Virginia.
About half the students got the questions right, while the others were way off (video below).
Joseph asked one girl when the U.S. declared its independence, and she replied, "1704." Another young lady got the answer, 1776, but a third girl said, "Oh my goodness, 1674, 73?"
A couple more grads got the answer correct, but another teen replied, "1907? I have no idea."
The same teen couldn't name the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Atlantic reported in 2013 on worldwide education rankings by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) based upon a test that was given to teens around the globe in 2012.
The United States scored in the middle of the rankings, above Lithuania, but below the Slovac Republic.
