Teen's Joking Tweet to American Airlines Backfires

A 14-year-old twitter user named "Sarah" who uses the handle "@QueenDemetriax_" joked around this morning with American Airlines.

According to the New York Daily News, Sarah tweeted:

@AmericanAir hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye.

Unamused, American Airlines replied with:

@queendemetriax_ Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.

That tweet, which has since been deleted by American Airlines, set off a firestorm on Sarah's Twitter feed now called "Demetria," including:

@AmericanAir omfg I was kidding.

@AmericanAir I'm so sorry I'm scared now.

@AmericanAir I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine.

@AmericanAir I was kidding pls don't I'm just a girl pls.

Omfg I'm so stupid I'm scared.

Why would I blow up one of your planes, I have my own jet @AmericanAir

Wow bc of this I gained 1k followers.

According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Sarah came up with multiple excuses, including her Twitter page being hacked, June 1st being her sister's birthday and, most recently, the teen claimed she wrote the tweet a month ago, but didn't send it.

She says that her Twitter page "tripped" and published it today.
