Cop Suspended After Posting Racist Rant, Death Wish About Obama on Facebook

A police officer in Westchester County, New York has been suspended after posting a racist rant about President Obama on his Facebook page.

Officer Peter Burns of the Pleasantville Police Department took to Facebook under the pseudonym “Coon Trapper” and shared his thoughts about the current president.

"The fact that he (Obama) is still alive bewilders me," wrote Burns in the Facebook post. "Go die in a shallow grave you Muslim commie…”

Burns allegedly went on to include a racial slur, describe President Obama as “un-American," and talk about the “1st amendment NSA.” The unapologetic comments didn’t sit well with higher-ups in his department, however, and he was suspended shortly after.

"These statements were allegedly made by a Pleasantville Police Officer," said Police Chief Richard Love to the Huffington Post. "Such statements are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The Police Officer who allegedly made the posting has been placed on administrative leave and has been relieved of his duties. The Police Department has commenced an internal investigation into this matter. This investigation is presently ongoing. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the examination of its results, the Police Department will consider all legal options, including the possibility of commencing disciplinary proceedings against the Police Officer which could lead to his dismissal."

The post was initially discovered by a reporter for The Journal News and was eventually passed along to Chief Love.

Burns' statement has angered many people, including other law enforcement officers in the area. Damon Jones, president of the Westchester chapter of Blacks in Law Enforcement of America, says that it’s disheartening to hear those words from a fellow officer.

"The fact that a cop can say something like that about the president shows that there are deep racial issues within law enforcement," said Jones. "It's something our elected officials have to pay attention to. There should be racial sensitivity training in every police department with oversight to make sure that it's being done properly and being taken seriously."

According to USA Today, Burns is one of the highest paid officers at the Pleasantville Police Department, making a reported $98,959 a year.

Burns has yet to make a statement regarding the matter, but the Pleasantville Police Department is continuing to investigate while the officer is on administrative leave.
