The dating world has experienced radical changes over the past few years. With advances in technology and social media, we're able to find out more about someone we could potentially date before we even begin dating them.
And when we finally start dating someone, one of the first things many people do is change their "relationship status" on Facebook.
One website is taking advantage of the importance we place on Facebook relationships, and is now offering fake Facebook girlfriends.
The Brazilian website, NamoroFake.com.br, charges $39.00 for a fake Facebook girlfriend profile. The package includes comments and the "relationship status" change for a total of thirty days. If you're on a budget, you can pay $19.00 for a fake ex-girlfriend.
Some people are on the fence about it, so the site offers a few reasons why it is important to have a fake Facebook girlfriend.
"Sometimes having a fake girlfriend on the Internet helps make you more popular with the women and increases your self esteem," they say.
"Sometimes people need to rent a fake girlfriend to make jealous a jealous ex-girlfriend. In truth, we have a lot of clients for that reason," the site says. "After a breakup, the ex-boyfriends want to show that they are already with another person to feel good. One immediate way to do this is to hire a fake girlfriend to maintain appearances."
In order to gather enough fake girlfriends for everyone, the site invites women to send in their profiles, with a 50 percent profit-sharing incentive. For now, the site is a bit one-sided, as it doesn't offer fake boyfriends.
