Yankees' Alex Rodriguez Could Be Banned For Life From Baseball By MLB

New York Yankees’ 3B Alex Rodriguez is facing almost certain suspension for his involvement with a Miami-based anti-aging clinic now famous for providing Major League Baseball players with performance enhancing drugs. However, if he doesn’t accept a deal given to him the league, he could be banned from the game for life, according to The New York Daily News.

Monday, the paper reported MLB officials offered Rodriguez a deal in which he would be suspended without pay for the remainder of this season and the entirety of the 2014 season and postseason, citing a source familiar with the situation. The same source told The News if Rodriguez doesn’t accept the deal, MLB commissioner Bud Selig would pursue a lifetime ban for the Yankee.

Rodriguez is being investigated in connection with Biogenesis, a clinic that’s allegedly been providing Major and Minor League Baseball players with banned performance enhancing drugs. Milwaukee Brewers’ OF Ryan Braun was also connected to Biogenesis, and recently accepted a deal suspending him without pay for the rest of the current season.

According to The News, “MLB officials hoped that when Braun cut his deal for 65 games it would send a message to all the other players involved in the Biogenesis scandal to do likewise. According to a source, once Braun learned of MLB’s evidence, he approached MLB seeking a deal, hoping to “’get it all behind him.’

“MLB was expected to announce the remaining suspensions at the same time, but baseball officials are now expected to deal with Rodriguez’s discipline before moving on to other players. Some of those players are not expected to face suspensions because they were already disciplined for violations that occurred during the same time period as the Biogenesis offenses.”

The News also reported Rodriguez plans to plead not guilty to any charges levied against him by MLB, and plans to appeal any suspension levied against him.
