AP Poll: Oregon on Top, Wisconsin Jumps LSU into Top 5

With only Boise State and LSU being the only top 5 teams in last week’s Associated Press College Football top 25 poll in action this weekend, wins by both teams you would think would keep this week’s AP poll looking pretty much the same in this area. Now that the new poll has been released, there actually was a change, even after both teams getting wins.

Oregon remains in the top spot once again and is followed by Auburn. The Ducks did lose one first place vote and they currently have 37. The Tigers actually picked up one first place vote which brings their total to 13.

Boise State stayed put at No. 3 for the second week in a row with 10 first place votes. They had another convincing win on Friday as they blew out Fresno State 51-0. Things could change next weekend however with their position if they can get past No. 19 Nevada. Strength of schedule has hurt them all season and this would be a plus. TCU also kept their position at No. 4 in the polls and have 2 first place votes.

The big change in the polls happened at No. 5 where Wisconsin jumped over LSU to move into the top 5. LSU entered the weekend at No. 5 but could not hold their spot even after beating ranked Mississippi 43-36. They dropped to No. 6. Wisconsin got a win over Michigan and now they take over at No. 5.

Stanford remains at No. 7 after beating California 48-14. Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 8 after their win over Iowa and last week’s No. 8 Nebraska losing to Texas A&M. Alabama moved up 2 positions to No. 9 and Oklahoma State stayed put at No. 10.

Two teams dropped out of the top 25 after losses this weekend. USC was at No. 20 in last week’s poll but fell out after losing to Oregon State 36-7. Miami also dropped out after their loss to Virginia Tech.

It will be interesting to see the new poll next week. There are quite a few top 25 matchups as well as the top 3 teams in the country facing ranked teams in their games.
