O.J. Simpson and His Bloody Glove are Back in the News

I just read where last week famed (or defamed, depending on how you look at it) O.J. Simpson prosecutor Christopher A. Darden is still lobbying for a guilty verdict. Apparently Darden contended to a law school audience that Simpson lead attorney, the late Johnnie L. Cochran, had manipulated the now infamous bloody gloves. If you are old enough, surely you remember the scene. For you kiddies out there, during the trial in the stabbing deaths of Simpson’s former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Lyle Goldman, Simpson tried on the incriminating bloody gloves and they didn’t fit.

The impression of O.J. holding up his hands in front of the jury box to let everyone see the leather was too small to fit around his broad palms is an image those watching will never forget. That demonstration became a powerful visual for the defense and was later summarized with the now infamous rhythmic words of Cochran: “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”

Memo to Chris Darden: Dude! It’s over, that was 20-years ago! Get on with your life. You guys messed up and were embarrassed on the biggest possible stage. Trying to justify things two decades later and accusing a dead guy who now can’t speak on his own behalf of tampering with the evidence only makes you look worse. That’s like Scott Norwood claiming now that there was a 60 mph micro wind shear from left to right just as he kicked the ball…

Random Musings:

With just 22-games to go, at 80-60 it is the Oakland Athletics that have the second best record in the American League as they are just three games behind the Texas Rangers. Who woulda thunk it? Maybe they should call Billy Beane the regular season genius…
