I understand that people tend to either love or hate the Patriots. Which, consequently leads to people viewing Tom Brady in the same way.
After all, it’s hard to appreciate excellence if it’s not your team/player.
It’s the same way with the New York Yankees, Miami Heat, Duke/UNC, etc.
I get that.
With that being said, the amount of people trying to ridicule the new deal Tom Brady made with his ‘hometown’ New England Patriots is laughable.
Actually, it’s downright pathetic.
Now, are there certain things in Brady’s new contract that are favorable for him? Absolutely.
And do you have to look closely to see how much Brady really gave up? Sure.
However, did Brady give the Pats a measureable discount? Without a doubt.
Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco (except in 2013), Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning are all going to make more money than Brady each year from now until 2016.
Out of those four, I don’t think anyone would argue that only Peyton is in Brady’s league as far as pedigree goes (sorry Eli, I count regular season results too).
Sure, talk about how the Pats are cheaters. Or how Brady has just been blessed with a great defense and coach who won all of his games for him. I mean; that would be nothing new, Pats fans are used to that. Plus, they don’t really care.
In the end though, it would be unfair and uneducated of you to try and bash Brady’s new contract. Brady took the high road when he could’ve taken the “Joe Flacco” road.
Not to mention that deep down each and every fan hopes and prays the best player on their team will someday take the same kind of ‘hometown’ discount Brady took for the New England Patriots.
It was classy, whether you choose to see it or not.
