What Would a Win Over Jake Ellenberger Mean for Diego Sanchez's Title Hopes?

Diego Sanchez meets Jake Ellenberger tonight in the main event of UFC On Fuel TV 1 in a bout that should propel the winner high into the welterweight stratosphere.

Sanchez, the middleweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 1, has hung around the top of both the welterweight and lightweight divisions since his time on the show and is currently on an upswing during his second stint at 170lbs. With decisions over Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann pulling him out of a two-fight slump, Sanchez will have his hands full against the surging Ellenberger, who's on a five-fight run that includes two impressive TKOs over Mike Pyle and Jake Shields.

Sanchez knows what he's in for with Ellenberger though, and looks forward to the benefits he'll reap from defeating the rising contender.

"You know, this is a big fight with Jake Ellenberger because I believe he is one of the top guys in the division," Sanchez said. "He has more momentum than a [Josh] Koscheck or a [Johny] Hendricks right now, and I think a win over him is going to set me up in a good position in the division and a shot at the title."

Sanchez and Ellenberger will tangle in just a few short hours at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska. Stay tuned to FightLine for our live, ongoing coverage of the event this evening.
