The Kansas City Royals trade Zach Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt to the Milwaukee Brewers for Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress.
Analysis by Dr. Roto
Excellent trade for both sides here. The Brewers add another terrific arm this off-season, giving them a power three (Greinke, Gallardo, and Marcum) that can matchup with any team outside the city of Philadelphia. Betancourt is also solid and will provide a bit more power to the lineup.
Cain was expendable as the Brewers already have Carlos Gomez to be their speed threat in the OF. The Royals also make a very shrewd deal for the coming years. Greinke was not going to resign and the Royals were worried about him becoming a distraction in the clubhouse. Cain and Escobar are capable of stealing 75 bases this season and are young hitters with good upside. Additionally, Jeffress and Odorizzi were two of the top young arms in the Brewers system. Expect to see Jeffress in the bullpen this year and Odorizzi in the Royals' rotation by mid 2012. - Dr. Roto
