Washington Redskins Add Devery Henderson and Donte Stallworth

While the Washington Redskins offense isn’t exactly lacking in offensive weapons, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to add more. And that’s exactly what the Redskins did.

The Skins announced on Wednesday that they had to come to terms on contracts with free agent wide receivers Donte Stallworth and Devery Henderson. It’s a curious pair of signings for the Redskins, who appear to be more than set at the receiver position. As it currently stands Washington already has Leonard Hankerson, Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, Joshua Morgan and Aldrick Robinson signed through next season.

With all that being said, the odds are stacked heavily against either Stallworth or Henderson making the Skins roster out of training camp. Then again, Hankerson and Garcon have had no shortage of difficulties staying healthy. If either of those two were to get injured during training camp that would open a spot. If not, then perhaps a mid-season injury would.

Stallworth is coming off a season in which he played in only one game for the New England Patriots, tallying one reception for a 62 yard touchdown.

There will be no shortage of familiar faces for Stallworth in Washington. The Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was the head coach of the Saints in 2002, when the club drafted Stallworth in the 1st round. This will also be Stallworth’s second stint with the club. His first came in the 2011 season, where he posted 22 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns.

Henderson, like Stallworth, was also drafted by Haslett while he was the head coach of the Saints. Haslett selected Henderson in the second round of the 2004 draft. Henderson is coming off a season in which he posted a respectable, if not average, 22 receptions for 316 yards and a touchdown.

It’s going to take one really odd set of circumstances for either of these receivers to stick with the club, but should they arise, they will prove to be solid bargain-bin pickups. Nothing to get too excited about, maybe just a little curious.
