Union Rags won the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes in thrilling fashion on Saturday.
Despite the fact that the last two days have been more or less mired by I’ll Have Another talk and everyone complaining about not getting to see a Triple Crown winner, for 2:30 and 1.5 miles – none of that mattered. Union Rags not only won this race, it won it in the sort of come-from-behind fashion that should be seen as an unintentional tribute to I’ll Have Another’s two earlier victories.

Paynter finished in second, Atigun in third and Street Life in fourth.
