Nobody expected Monday night’s showdown between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons to be close. In one corner, you had arguably the best team in the Western Conference. In the other, you had quite possibly the saddest franchise in all of basketball. This should have ended with an early knockout by OKC. That’s not how it actually went, though. Detroit hung tough until the very end, before ultimately choking away an 11-point fourth quarter lead en route to a 92-90 defeat.
If you want one play that was truly symbolic of how pedestrian the Pistons looked in that fourth quarter, this would be it:
Russell Westbrook ultimately totaled 14 points in the fourth quarter and had 33 for the game.
