Doing play-by-play announcing in basketball is not easy. You have to know the ins and outs of the game, be very familiar with every single player on the court, and have a certain knack for not mispronouncing people’s names. Los Angeles Clippers announcer Ralph Lawler is an absolute legend in the business (in L.A., at least), and for the most part he epitomizes all of the traits necessary for a successful career in broadcasting.
For the most part.
Not even the all-time greats are completely infallible, though. During Wednesday night’s Game 2 showdown between the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies, Lawler made an unfortunate gaffe while trying to pronounce Vinny Del Negro’s name.
Check it out:
To be fair, Donald Sterling has been pronouncing it like that all along.
