The Lakers earned their seventh preseason loss of the year on Wednesday night when they fell to the Clippers 97-91. Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard sat this one out, however, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash were on hand.
Generally speaking, a team that just has Gasol and Nash at their disposal would still be considered pretty good. There hasn’t been an outing to date that hasn’t featured at least two of the Lakers’ Big 4, so it’s a bit stunning that this unit hasn’t been able to pick up an exhibition win to date. Sure, these games are meaningless – but you can’t even win one? That’s just strange.
Gasol finished with 17 points and eight rebounds in 35 minutes of action. Nash pitched in four points and seven assists in 25 minutes. Robert Sacre and Jodie Meeks, who started in place of Howard and Bryant, racked up 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Eric Bledsoe led the way for the Clippers with 22 points on seven-of-18 shooting in 44 minutes of action.
