This year’s Heisman race has been absolutely embarrassing thus far. Matt Barkley entered as a preseason favorite. A few games in, when it became apparent how overrated Barkley had been, Geno Smith began to rise up the charts. When West Virginia hit a brick wall in the form of actual competition, Collin Klein got some attention. And while Klein remained atop the charts through 10 weeks, everyone endorsing him was very lukewarm on doing so. He was the best player on one of the nation’s best teams, sure, but he just didn’t feel like a Heisman candidate.
If Klein got the award, it would be moreso because of the ineptness of his competition than because folks actually wanted to give it to him.
On Saturday, we finally found someone who feels like a Heisman candidate. Via Twitter must-follow (@cjzero):
Freshmen don’t get Heismans. Texas A&M isn’t in the hunt for a National Title. Blah. Blah. Blah. Unless he blows it before the end of the season, Johnny Football should get the award. He deserves it way more than anyone else being considered, just on the strength of yesterday’s performance alone.
