On Wednesday afternoon, Felix Hernandez gave the Seattle Mariners and all their fans something they could finally smile about.
Up to now, 2012 hasn’t exactly gone according to plan for this franchise. (Well, it mostly has, but not in a good way.) A 55-64 record, fourth place in the AL West, and no real indication that things will improve anytime soon would be enough to make even the biggest of sports optimists feel a bit down.
Everything changed today, though, when King Felix delivered three strikes against Sean Rodriguez after originally falling behind 2-0 in the count. Those strikes not only added a perfect game to his record, it also provided the Mariners with the first perfect game they've ever had.
Needless to say, today was a good day in Seattle.
This is the third time in four seasons that the Tampa Bay Rays have given up a perfect game.
