As Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield proved to us many years ago, biting at a sporting event is a surefire way to guarantee attention from an American audience.
Even though it’s the world’s most popular sport, soccer doesn’t get much love in the United States. More specifically, Copa Libertadores action gets zero love in the United States. Presumably in an effort to change that, Corinthians' Emerson Sheik decided to shine a bit of light on himself and his teammates during the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final.
Realizing that his two earlier scores hadn’t gotten much fanfare, Sheik went for a more-in-your-face attention grab. Literally. He put an opponent’s hand in his face and bit down on it.
Check it out:
What was Sheik's punishment for this horrible deed? Nothing. The refs didn't even see it. The guy on the wrong end of the bite probably should have flopped.
