There is probably a reasonable case to be made that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has not (yet) lived up to the expectations that a lot of folks had for him. It’s not that his career has been bad or anything, per se, but when you come from the lineage he comes from and you have the last name he has, people will inevitably expect a lot out of you.
Recently, in a special thing he did for CBS, Earnhardt Jr. wrote a letter to his 16-year-old self in which he really gave a sense of how he views himself, how he feels he stacks up to his dad’s legacy, and what he envisions for himself in the future. Officially he may have been talking to his 16-year-old self, but, really, it kind of felt like he was just talking to himself at his current age.
