Fans who tuned into UFC on FUEL TV 6 yesterday had very different expectations for the two men participating in the main event. Rich Franklin was the undisputed favorite – everyone expected him to win, and win with authority. Conversely, Cung Le was a heavy underdog. Folks anticipated that he would come out of the gate aggressively, but that Franklin’s all-around game would ultimately prove to be too much for him.
Yeah, that’s not how things ultimately shook out.
Le came out of the gate slow and methodical. Franklin, inexplicably, came out aggressive and careless. Before he knew what happened, Le caught him with a bomb that sent him to the mat face first (37 second mark):
Game. Set. Match.
You have to wonder if this is it for Franklin. This won’t do much for Le’s career (the division is too stacked; he’s too old), but it could definitely mean that Franklin’s is done. Time will tell.
