Video: Chad Johnson Promises to Get Arrested on Hard Knocks

Chad Johnson has done a lot of things for attention, but would he really land himself in jail on a domestic assault charge just to get a little extra publicity?

That’s the question some folks are asking on Sunday after the Miami Dolphins' new wide receiver was arrested for allegedly head-butting his new wife, Evelyn Lozada.

In order to understand why folks are suspicious about what happened, it’s important to start at the beginning.

Last week marked the debut of HBO’s well-known football series, Hard Knocks. While the episode focused on the entire Dolphins football team, a good bit of emphasis was placed on Johnson and his reality TV star better half.

Right around the 40-minute mark of the show, Johnson could be heard saying this to the Dolphins' chief security investigator (via Twitter must-follow @drewunga):

"Stu, I promise I'm getting arrested while we're off.”

Fast forward to now.

According to ESPN, police apprehended Johnson on Saturday night after an argument between him and Lozada culminated in things getting physical. Originally, their quarrel started over a receipt for a box of condoms that she found in the trunk of one of their cars. There is no indication that Lozada assaulted Johnson in any way, or that she initiated the physical portion of their confrontation.

Johnson, for all his attention-seeking antics, has never had any serious legal problems. He’s never had any issues as far as being unable to keep his hands to himself. He’s never been that guy.

Hence all the questions about the legitimacy of what happened on Saturday night.

Again, the odds of folks going through all this trouble just to create a reality TV storyline are slim – but in the age of 72-day Kardashian marriages, you can’t really instantly dismiss the idea either.
