The younger brother of San Francisco 49ers superstar Vernon Davis has been charged with first-degree murder.
Michael Davis,19, was charged on Wednesday in connection with the death of 66-year-old Denver tourist, Gary Dederichswith. Per CBS, Dederichswith was bludgeoned back on April 24 with what authorities believe may have been a claw hammer. Four days after this incident took place, on April 28, Davis was charged with two counts of assault with intent to kill for his alleged involvement in other nearby hammer assaults. All in all, he is currently being investigated for five total attacks.
Police initially caught up with Davis as a result of a completely different incident that took place on April 26.
According to the Washington Examiner, he was originally apprehended by cops after they heard a young female screaming for help on the 800 block of Gallatin Street NW. As they responded, Davis attempted to flee the scene; in the process, he reportedly discarded a backpack which was found to have contained a claw hammer. He was ultimately caught and booked.
For what it’s worth, a defense attorney for Davis apparently argued that there was no probable cause for his client's arrest because the people that were attacked could not identify their attacker. (They were hit from behind.) We’ll see how that defense ultimately works out.
