UFC On FX: Alves vs. Kampmann Gate and Attendance Report

Publish date:

UFC president Dana White revealed on Friday night following UFC on FX 2: Alves vs. Kampmann that the fight card drew the highest gate of a Fight Night card at $2.3 million, while pulling in an audience of 14,537.

In the main event, welterweight staples Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann squared off, with Kampmann rallying in the final round to submit a confident Alves with a hail Mary guillotine choke. The submission netted the Dutchman a Submission of the Night bonus.

The fight card also featured the debut of the featherweight division, with a four-man tournament held to determine the two men who would contend for the vacant 125lbs title. On one side of the bracket, Joseph Benavidez knocked out Yasuhiro Urushitani to advance to the finals. Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson fought to what was originally declared a majority decision in Johnson's favor, but later revealed to be a majority draw.

The Australian athletic commission overseeing the event took responsibility for the error and, since the two men were not allowed to rightfully compete in the tournament's sudden death round, they will face each other again this April.

UFC on FX 2: Alves vs. Kampmann went down from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia. For results and a full recap of the event, click here.
