UFC on FX 5 Round-by-Round Review: Jake Ellenberger vs. Jay Hieron

Tonight's co-main event has plenty of history as Hieron was able to defeat a young Jake Ellenberger at a 2006 matchup in the IFL. Ellenberger will try to avenge his defeat, coming in as the favorite this time around while Hieron makes his return to Octagon coming off an 11-1 streak.

Round 1: Both fighters feeling each other out one minute in. Ellenberger comes in with a right hand but Hieron able to duck under. Ellenberger known to gas and might be perserving some energy. A couple of shots from "the Juggernaut" connect and rattle his opponent. Hieron tries a spinning kick but fails to hit. Hieron goes in for the single leg and Ellenberger hops out, avoiding the takedown.

Round 2: Ellenberger dives in for an uppercut but Hieron counters nicely. Hieron working some nice head kicks now that keep the former Marine at bay. Ellenberger with a well-timed takedown to end up in Hieron's guard before landing some short elbows. Hieron pushes his opponent away and gets up to his feet. Blood flowing from the nose of Hieron who uses some front kicks to maintain the distance.

Fightline scores the round 10-9 for Ellenberger

Round 3: Hieron misses with a kick to the groin. Ellenberger takes a moment before they resume. Hieron getting more active with those kicks before Ellenberger goes in for another double leg but "The Thoroughbred" get right back to the feet. Ellenberger tries another but Hieron able to back away. A lot of respect here from both guys. Some boos coming from the crowd as Ellenberger stalks but does not explode as we've come to expect.
