UFC on FOX 4 Round-by-Round Review: Mike Swick vs. DaMarques Johnson

Mike Swick vs. DaMarques Johnson

Mike Swick kicks off the main card on FOX after a knee injury sidelined him for over two years. His opponent DaMarques Johnson will look to rebound from a submission loss to John Maguire in April. There are a lot of variables for Swick given the layoff so it should be interesting to see what he brings to this welterweight tilt.

Round 1: The two touch gloves in the center. Swick leans in with a big right hand that shakes Johnson. Another nice right connects for Swick. Nice right hand from Johnson lands as Swick was coming in. Strength from Johnson pins Swick against the cage and takes his offbalance opponent to the ground. Swick manages to escape though and swings with a flurry of hooks against the cage. Power shots here and he follows with the knee. Johnson gets him to the ground however and has is playing in half guard. Swick in a lot of trouble as he eats some shots from on top. Johnson moves in for a D'Arce and tries to get it deeper before giving up. Round comes to a close with Johnson on top.

Fightline scores the round 10-9 for Johnson

Round 2: The two feeling eachother out trading punches. Swick catches a leg and lands a big takedown. A huge right hand knocks out Johnson and two more shots follow before the ref steps in.

Mike Swick def. DaMarques Johnson via TKO (punches) at 1:20 in the second round.

Despite the rough start, Swick capitalized brilliantly on his takedown with some precise striking on the ground. Johnson drops to 16-10 while Swick improves to 15-4. Interesting to see who the UFC picks as his next opponent to see where he falls in the division after the layoff.
